“A message from Judi Stewart, Chief Executive inviting you to the AGM. All of the necessary documents are available at the foot of this message for you to download.”
To Members of the B.D.A.
Dear Colleague,
I am pleased to invite you to attend the:
01. Autumn Forum and 36th Annual General Meeting,
to be held on Saturday 15 November 2008,
at The Abbey School, 17 Kendrick Road, Reading RG1 5DZ
commencing at 11a.m.
(registration and ‘Wake up 2 Dyslexia’ Breakfast from 10a.m.).
We are delighted that Dr Joel Talcot of Aston University and Professor Peter Pumfrey, B.D.A. Vice President, have agreed to be our guest speakers on this occasion.
Attendance on 15 November.
Although each Local Dyslexia Association (L.D.A.), Dyslexia Support Group (D.S.G.) and Organisational Member (O.M.) is entitled to appoint a single delegate to attend and vote at the A.G.M., the members meeting itself is an open meeting. We look forward to welcoming more than just individual members and the voting delegate or nominee from L.D.A.s, D.S.G.s and O.M.s for the whole day. Please bring along others from your groups and organisations; just let us know by Monday 10 November who is coming, by completing the appropriate section on the attendance form.
The Report and Accounts for 2007 / 2008:
We expect these to be available by early November and posted on the website: www.bdadyslexia.org.uk . Hard copies may be requested in advance of the A.G.M by contacting the B.D.A. on 0845 251 9003 or e-mail: admin@bdadyslexia.org.uk. They will also be available on the day for all those attending the A.G.M.
Special Resolutions.
Your attention is drawn to the Special Resolutions, item 2.1 on the A.G.M. agenda (and 05. Resolutions Appendix 1). This relates to the proposal to join the L.D.A.s and D.S.G.s to form one membership category, called Local Dyslexia Associations (L.D.A.s). Existing L.D.A.s and D.S.G.s have been consulted on the draft proposal and invited to send their comments to the Management Board. The proposal will be considered at the A.G.M. and members will be invited to pass the resolution. Further copies of the proposal documents, as circulated on 28 August can be obtained from the B.D.A. Office (telephone 0845 251 9003 or e-mail: admin@bdadyslexia.org.uk ) and will be available at the A.G.M.
Trustee Elections.
Nominations for the two Trustee vacancies in the Organisational Members category have been received from Jennifer Parsonage (Indigo Dyslexia Centre) and Rosie Wood (Danes Hill School). Jennifer and Rosie will be nominated for formal election at the A.G.M.
Nominations for the one Trustee vacancy in the Individual Members category have been received from Hans Kirk-Levi and Arran Smith. Elections will take place at the A.G.M. to elect one of these nominees to the Trustee vacancy.
Personal Statements of each of the nominees are included with these A.G.M. papers.
Local Association Board (L.A.B.) Elections.
The L.A.B. Elections have been postponed to the Spring of 2009. Local Dyslexia Associations, L.A.B. Representatives and Dyslexia Support Groups have been advised of this in a letter from B.D.A. Chair, Margaret Malpas, sent earlier this month.
Working together with our Members and Raising Awareness.
The B.D.A. is proud to be a Membership organisation and it is through working in partnership with our members that we can achieve so much and really “punch above our weight”.
The A.G.M. itself falls in the middle of Wake up 2 Dyslexia month. The Campaign aims to raise awareness and funds to benefit the Local Dyslexia Associations, Dyslexia Support Groups and the B.D.A. Those who would like to participate in our ‘Wake up 2 Dyslexia’ breakfast at the A.G.M. will be requested to make a small donation.
Members Day: Saturday 6 of June 2009. This event, to be held at York St. John University, will be open to all members. It is intended to get the whole family involved with a variety of workshops for children and adults. There will be exhibitions from a diverse range of organisations as well as opportunities to listen to speakers who have been involved in the world of dyslexia. There will be lots of exciting, stimulating and rewarding activities for younger members. Both Leicester D.A. and Leeds & Bradford D,A, have been extremely proactive in helping us arrange the event, and we look forward to holding an unforgettable day. Please put the date in your diaries now! Tickets will be on sale in the new year at £20 for a family or £10 for an individual ticket.
We look forward to seeing many of you on Saturday 15 November. Please do return your completed attendance forms by Monday 10 November and remember to bring your own lunch on 15 November.
Yours faithfully,
Judi Stewart,
Chief Executive and Company Secretary.
